Copy of Antonius Stradiuarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1719 Early 1900's 4/4 Violin
This beautiful 4/4 violin has a solid tiger flamed maple back and tiger flamed maple ribs. The curly neck and scroll correspond to the back and sides. The book-matched resonate spruce top is beautifully shaded in reddish brown varnish. The fingerboard and tailpiece are solid ebony. It is in wonderful condition for a century old violin and appears to be in original condition outside of the chin and shoulder rests (the latter a Wolf Forte-Primo). No cracks, although it has some nicks/marks and finish wear throughout. Neck is tight to body and sound post intact.
Paper label inside reads: Copy of Antonius Stradiuarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1719 Made in Germany. Paper Label is complete w/no tears or missing corners (see photos).
It has a beautiful full rich mature sound and has strong projection. A concert violinist played it and commented that it had one of the mellowest trebles he had ever heard. In 2003 in was appraised at W.A. Gough Violins Ltd. in Calgary, AB by the owner for $2500 and $450 for the 4/4 Romanian bow. It comes ready to play complete with a 4/4 Romanian bow, rosin and a hard-shell case...$2500. Blowout $1350. Willing to trade for vintage acoustic guitar.
Measurements:
Body length (minus heal): 14 1/8"
Total length: 23-1/2"
Upper bout: 6-5/8"
Lower bout: 8-1/8"
